Chapter 10
Chief Lee Geontaek felt an immense irritation.
‘How dare someone talk back to the chief?’
No one in the ER had ever been so rude to him.
“……”
His eyes hardened, and his naturally large earlobes trembled.
But Daeho didn’t care and kept speaking.
“Shouldn’t we question a doctor who turned away from an emergency patient?”
“You clearly had an order…”
“‘Transfer to OS.’ Even an intern can do that. A specialist? Ha!”
Daeho let out an exasperated breath.
Meanwhile, Chief Lee could no longer contain his patience.
Most of all, someone was standing tall, challenging him in front of other residents.
To Lee Geontaek, this was nothing short of a disgrace.
Ignoring it would undermine his dignity as the medical chief.
He snapped at Kang Jinsu.
“Dr. Kang, you have something to discuss closely with Dr. Choi. Step outside.”
“Huh? Ah, yes. Excuse me!”
Kang Jinsu bowed deeply and hurried out.
Thunk.
The sound of the door closing coincided with Lee Geontaek’s face twisting in anger, his tone shifting.
“What was that attitude just now? How dare a re….”
“You seem to blame everything on residents. Is that the trend here?”
“What?”
His displeasure surged, shaking his cheeks.
Daeho, ignoring the change, spoke calmly.
“So, what’s the punishment for a specialist who runs from an emergency patient?”
“Do you have no respect for seniors?”
“Not for a senior who abandons a critical patient.”
“You chased him out!”
Lee Geontaek shouted in rage, but Daeho remained unfazed.
“Is it normal to leave a critical patient just because someone told you to go?”
“Even if it had been you, would you have pushed him away?”
“Yes.”
Daeho’s calm answer made the chief’s expression twitch nervously.
“What did you say!”
“It doesn’t matter who it is. The ER is for saving lives.”
“Richard, you….”
“I don’t understand this situation. If it were the opposite, would Dr. Park get scolded?”
“Uh… ahem, uh-hem.”
The chief suddenly coughed to avoid answering.
Daeho smiled coldly.
“‘It’s a resident, so it’s wrong.’ Convenient logic.”
“This isn’t Johns Hopkins.”
“Correct. Something like this couldn’t happen at Johns Hopkins.”
Daeho shrugged.
But Lee Geontaek couldn’t challenge that.
It was clearly Park Youngjun’s fault.
If he publicly blamed it, the ER’s position in the hospital would weaken.
His anger boiled, but he had to stop here.
“Ugh… Choi, we’ll see about this in the future.”
“As you wish.”
“Go.”
“Excuse me.”
Daeho lightly nodded and left the chief’s office.
Left alone, Lee Geontaek’s rage soared.
He grabbed the phone and vented his frustration at Park Youngjun.
“How could this humiliation happen? What kind of person are you!”
I’m sorry. I have no excuse.
“I’ll see this through!”
Don’t worry.
Park Youngjun’s voice from the receiver was tense and serious.
At the same time, in the ER hallway,
Someone was waiting for Daeho.
It was Kang Jinsu, looking nervous.
“Dr. Kang?”
“Dr. Richard.”
“Were you waiting for me?”
“Of course. Trouble happened on your first day because of me.”
Kang Jinsu hunched his narrow shoulders as he spoke.
Daeho didn’t like this attitude either.
“I should have spoken up sooner.”
“That’s fine. You can speak freely.”
“Good. Then let’s do that. Why didn’t you protest? Aren’t you upset?”
Kang Jinsu scratched his head awkwardly, smiling weakly.
“If I stick to the rules, I was wrong.”
“Really? You really think so?”
“What power do I have?”
His answer left a bitter taste.
Daeho decided it was pointless to argue further.
“Let’s go for now.”
“Yes. This way.”
Kang Jinsu hurriedly led the way.
Daeho paused at his natural behavior.
“You really were waiting for me?”
“Yes. You’re not familiar with the layout yet.”
“Alright. Let’s go.”
“Yes.”
They walked toward the nurse station.
Daeho observed Kang Jinsu for a moment.
‘What a nice guy.’
He had even volunteered as an assistant during yesterday’s emergency.
A good trait for a doctor.
Yet he still looked timid.
Daeho, concerned, said lightly,
“You’ll be fine, Dr. Kang.”
“Uh… um…”
“Why?”
