Chapter 20. Magic Preservation Association
Lee Yeonhee did not show any dramatic reaction to what I said.
It was not because she did not believe me.
I could tell that she had already guessed something like this to some extent.
She trusted what I told her.
Even though reincarnation was something that sounded unbelievable at first, she accepted the truth surprisingly easily and began asking me countless questions.
Most of them were about the world I had lived in before I reincarnated.
I answered her questions one by one, and we continued chatting about all kinds of little things.
Time passed quickly.
Before long, Confirmation Bias and Lucy woke up and joined our conversation.
By the time we were done talking, night had already arrived.
“Good night!”
“Good night to you too, Yeonhee.”
“By the way, are you really okay with me sleeping in the bedroom? You're the owner of this place, Oppa……”
“It’s fine. The sofa I brought from the Backroom is so luxurious that it’s actually more comfortable than the bed.”
Lee Yeonhee hesitated for a moment before asking,
“Then how about sleeping together on the bed? It’s really huge!”
“That’s a little……”
“Okay……”
After saying good night, we went to sleep.
Confirmation Bias and Lee Yeonhee slept on the bed.
Lucy slept on my stomach.
I gently stroked Lucy as I closed my eyes.
Maybe it was because I was finally home, but this place felt much more comfortable than the Backroom.
Sleep came quickly.
And just like that, the next day arrived.
What woke me from my deep sleep was not Lee Yeonhee.
It was not Lucy or Confirmation Bias.
It was not even the morning sunlight.
It was the sound of knocking.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Heavy knocking came from the front door.
I thought I could faintly hear voices as well, but the apartment's soundproofing was so good that I could not make out what they were saying.
“Yaaawn…… Did you sleep well?”
Lee Yeonhee and Confirmation Bias, who had woken up at the same time as me, approached with sleepy expressions.
I silently pointed toward the front door.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The door continued to shake.
Lee Yeonhee's expression instantly became serious.
She pulled out her gun.
Judging from the situation, whoever was knocking was probably human.
Even so, she did not hesitate as she released the safety on her weapon.
We had already experienced war inside the History Section of the Backroom and killed countless people.
At this point, you could almost call us specialists in killing—people who no longer hesitated before taking a life.
“Confirmation Bias. You stay inside.”
After sending Confirmation Bias away, I pulled out a sword instead of a gun.
It was the sharp blade I had brought from the Backroom.
Our guns had silencers attached, but even then, the sound would still be loud enough to echo through the apartment building.
If we fired them, almost everyone nearby would notice.
Things would become annoying after that.
The guns were our last resort.
If possible, I planned to deal with this using the sword.
I took out the book and read it in preparation for the possibility that I might die, then flexed the fingers of my right hand.
With silent steps, I approached the front door and pressed my ear against it.
Only then could I vaguely hear their conversation.
“So you're saying there’s food in this apartment?”
“I’m telling you! I saw it before. The guy living here bought a huge amount of food.”
“How much?”
“Enough for at least a year, probably.”
“Seriously? If that’s true, we hit the jackpot. But why isn’t this guy coming out? Is he not home?”
It seemed this was a planned raid.
Judging from their voices, there were probably three or four people outside.
Since they had planned this in advance, they must have brought weapons as well.
People often said there was no winning against superior numbers.
But I had the Curtain.
Against humans, the Curtain could completely incapacitate someone with even the slightest touch from my fingertips.
I listened more closely while waiting for the right moment to ambush them.
They stopped chatting casually and began discussing how they should break down the door.
Strangely, I was not particularly nervous.
My mindset was simple.
Even if I died, I could just regress.
I had never actually died before, but the meaning of death had already faded quite a lot for me.
I calmly gripped the kitchen knife in my hand.
Then, when one of them left to go get a welding machine, I rushed outside.
BANG!
The door flew open so violently that it almost came off its hinges.
My body shot forward.
My eyes quickly scanned the people outside.
There were three healthy adult men.
Two were armed with kitchen knives.
One had a hammer.
“What the hell?!”
“A sword!”
“Where did he get something like that?!”
They instinctively stepped backward.
But they were already within my range.
The long blade flashed as I swung it.
A crescent-shaped trail was drawn through the air.
The straight path of the sword scattered like mist.
Then blood sprayed behind it.
Slash!
The sharp sound of flesh being cut echoed through the hallway.
There was not even enough time for a scream.
The man holding the hammer died.
His round head rolled across the floor.
Cutting straight through someone's neck bone with a single strike was not an easy thing to do.
But I had spent an entire month training in the swordsmanship of great swordsmen while repeatedly experiencing real combat.
It was no longer beyond me.
Something like this was easy enough.
Without much emotion, I launched my second attack.
The tip of my blade shot forward as though placing a single dot in the air.
It was a thrust completed in an instant.
It looked as if someone had dipped a brush deeply into ink and placed a massive black dot in empty space.
Then I dragged my sword downward.
An unpleasant sensation brushed against my fingertips.
In an instant, I had killed two people.
I felt no sense of accomplishment from it.
As expected.
I still could not kill someone and feel absolutely nothing.
I hooked the leg of the remaining man, who was standing there in shock.
His body fell helplessly to the floor.
A scream filled with pain raced through the hallway.
Then came his desperate plea.
