Chapter 21

Chapter 21. Demon Extermination (2)

“Thank you for your hospitality, priest of the Order.”

“While Lord Baphomet stays here, our Order will provide you with as much convenience as possible.”

Until recently, Baphomet had been a ‘Baron’ of Pandemonium.

He smiled as he looked at the human bowing respectfully before him.

“As you already know, I have left Pandemonium.”

“Yes, we are aware.”

“Pandemonium has forgotten the ideals it once pursued and has grown satisfied with the current situation. I intend to rebel against Pandemonium and establish a new power in this world.”

As he spoke, Baphomet turned his head.

Standing nearby were humanoid demons with dark skin.

They were known as ‘Fallen Demons.’

“I lost quite a few soldiers while shaking off my pursuers... but troops can always be replenished.”

“We will cooperate with you as much as possible.”

“Most Constellations continue to remain mere spectators, while the Contractors are still weak... If I rise now, those who share my ambitions across the land will answer my call. Then I will be able to accomplish my great undertaking.”

Baphomet had already completed the entire plan in his head.

He would gather humans and monsters beneath his command and create a force surpassing Pandemonium.

Eventually, he intended to rule this entire world.

“However... are you really fine with accepting us?”

Baphomet glanced around.

“If demons like us stay in such a small village, won’t it cause a disturbance?”

“You need not worry, Lord Baphomet.”

The priest of the Order smiled.

“This village has long been under the influence of our Order. Even if Lord Baphomet and your followers walk around openly, there will be no trouble.”

“Hmm. That’s fortunate.”

Of course, Baphomet wasn’t saying these things because he particularly respected humans.

However, the Order of the ‘Dawn Star’ would be an important ally for his future plans.

That was why he wanted to maintain a friendly relationship with them as much as possible.

“Priest of the Order, even to my eyes, your organization is quite unusual.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes. The Black Dragon Society always remains wary of us even while conducting business with us, yet you people seem to genuinely accept us.”

“We are simply preparing for the new era. Once that new era arrives, there will no longer be any reason to distinguish between humans and demons.”

“Hahaha! I suppose you’re right.”

The Order was currently gathering followers by spreading the belief that this chaotic age would soon end and a new era would begin.

Perhaps because of that belief, their members sometimes displayed attitudes that seemed to transcend the morality of ordinary humans.

“There is a possibility that the White Order will catch our scent soon. We should reorganize ourselves and move to our next location before they appear.”

“The White Order... They’re the humans hostile toward Pandemonium, correct?”

“Yes. They are not opponents to underestimate. Especially because the Constellation supporting them is infamous for being an extreme fundamentalist even among Constellations—”

The priest was still speaking when someone suddenly rushed in from outside.

“Priest!”

“What is it?”

“There’s a group approaching the village!”

“There’s no way Pandemonium’s pursuit force could have followed us this far. Could it be the White Order?”

“No. It seems to be...”

“What?”

“I believe it’s the Black Dragon Society.”

“...!”

Listening to their conversation, Baphomet frowned.

“It seems Pandemonium gave them information and requested their cooperation. Even though they claim to be independent, they’re willing to sell out their own kind...”

“Lord Baphomet, if that’s the case...”

“Follower of the Order, how large is the enemy force?”

“Not very large. There seem to be around twenty Contractors!”

“That number is manageable.”

Baphomet nodded and looked toward the priest.

“Prepare your combatants. I will mobilize the Fallen Demons as well.”

“Yes!”

“We’ll deal with those small fry who don’t know their place, then move immediately.”

The Order had prepared ten Contractors.

Meanwhile, Baphomet had twelve Fallen Demons under his command.

He didn’t know exactly how powerful the Black Dragon Society’s Contractors were, but their forces should be more than enough.

And even if the Black Dragon Society turned out to be stronger than expected...

“If anything unexpected happens, I will personally step in.”

“Ooh...!”

Baphomet was attempting to establish his own independent faction.

Naturally, he possessed tremendous power.

His physical abilities were incomparable to those of ordinary humans, and he could also use powerful offensive magic.

But that wasn’t all.

As a high-ranking demon, Baphomet possessed formidable Authorities.

Even if the enemies were unexpectedly powerful and massacred all his subordinates, he would be able to reverse the situation by using those Authorities.

Though that would only be my last resort.

If he actually used that power, there was a high possibility that his cooperative relationship with the Order would collapse.

That was why he wanted to avoid such a situation whenever possible.

Of course, the Fallen Demons should be more than enough.

Their numbers had been reduced considerably while escaping their pursuers.

Even so, Baphomet still had twelve Fallen Demons left.

Each of them was a warrior capable of taking on a hundred opponents, and they were particularly skilled at fighting weak creatures such as humans.

Even if twenty Contractors attacked them simultaneously, the Fallen Demons should be able to suppress them in an instant.

“Fallen Demons.”

“Yes, Lord Baphomet.”

At his call, the Fallen Demons stepped forward.

“Show them your abilities.”

“We obey.”

Following Baphomet’s command, the Fallen Demons moved out to massacre the Black Dragon Society.

“Hyung, it’s started!”

“I know.”

Geumgak replied to Eungak while staring into the observation screen.

“Hmm. Baphomet, huh...”

“You know him?”

“Don’t you remember? He’s the demon who killed two thousand civilians in the Grand Park Massacre nine years ago.”

“Ah! That guy!”

“His title is only Baron, but his power rivals the Legion Commanders who hold titles of Count or higher.”

“Someone that powerful is leaving Pandemonium to become independent? Now this is interesting.”

Eungak spoke excitedly.

“The demons in East Asia have been way too quiet lately! Looks like things are finally going to get interesting again!”

“Yeah... But.”

Geumgak frowned as he manipulated the observation device.

“Baphomet’s forces consist of ten Contractors from the Order and twelve Fallen Demons that Baphomet brought with him...”

“The human Contractors are one thing, but the Fallen Demons aren’t easy opponents.”

The Fallen Demons were one of the races classified as ‘commoners’ within Pandemonium.

Originally, they had belonged to the fairy races, but after falling into corruption, they became servants of the demons.

They possessed excellent agility and strong magical resistance.

They were also highly skilled in combat techniques designed to kill an opponent with a single strike.

“Meanwhile, the Black Dragon Society attacking them has... twenty Contractors.”

“That seems pretty weak for a force trying to kill a Baron-class demon. Are they really that confident?”

“They’re probably relying on Ma Taesu.”

As he said that, Geumgak pointed toward the observation screen.

At the center of the screen, a long-haired man wearing a long coat was giving instructions to the others around him.

“Ma Taesu is an impressive bastard.”

“That’s right. He’d probably rank within the top ten in Korea right now. He’s extremely skilled.”

“And...”

Geumgak frowned again.

“That guy who beat Jason down in the previous video... I mean this man.”

“Ah, this guy?”

This time, Geumgak pointed toward a man wearing protective gear styled like a rider suit.

For some reason, he was accompanying the Black Dragon Society in their mission to exterminate Baphomet.

Perhaps after clashing with the White Order, he had ended up receiving help from the Black Dragon Society.

“From what I can tell, this guy is extremely strong.”

“He’s kind of like that ‘Monkey,’ isn’t he?”

“Hey! I told you not to talk about that bastard!”

The Monkey.

Remembering the humiliation he had suffered at the hands of that monster, who was now an S-Rank Constellation, Geumgak frowned.

“Anyway, this guy has great strength. But he doesn’t have technique. He just overwhelms everything with brute force.”

“Ah, that’s true. The only reason he beat Jason was because his punches were absurdly strong. And when he fought the White Order last time, he just swung a mace around and crushed them with raw strength.”

“But this time, his opponents are Fallen Demons.”

“Ah. They’re fast and technically skilled.”

“If you swing a mace with that much force, you’re guaranteed to leave an opening. What happens if the Fallen Demons use their speed to slip through that opening?”

“Ahh. His head will be gone in an instant.”

“Exactly. Many Fallen Demons are masters of assassination. And the ones over there are Baphomet’s closest subordinates. They’re probably all highly skilled.”

As they talked, Geumgak couldn’t help but think it was a shame.

The reason Geumgak and Eungak were watching this broadcast was because a ‘trailer’ had been uploaded to Constellation Tube beforehand.

They uploaded a video saying there would be a live broadcast of another great performance at this exact time, which is why we’re all watching it live...

He understood the intention of the Constellation who uploaded it.

They wanted to advertise their Contractor and attract more Constellations to watch his performance.

But...

This opponent was simply too dangerous.

That Constellation probably didn’t know Baphomet and the Fallen Demons would be the opponents.

If things continued like this, that Contractor would die.

Charging recklessly against battle-hardened Fallen Demons would only result in his throat being cut before long.

If that happened, all the promotion through Constellation Tube would have been completely wasted.

They went through all this trouble to gather so many Constellations... and it’ll probably end up being nothing more than free publicity for Ma Taesu.

Ma Taesu was an all-rounder who possessed both strength and technique.

He should be able to respond well to the Fallen Demons’ fast and precise attacks.

Perhaps this entire battle would become Ma Taesu’s solo performance.

I don’t know what kind of Constellation is behind that guy, but they got too greedy. Maybe they’re a newbie who only recently became a Constellation?

Thinking that, Geumgak continued watching the live broadcast.

The battle had just begun.

—BOOM!

Because the Apostle at the scene was broadcasting from close range, the battle unfolded before them with vivid sound and tremendous impact.

At the front of the group, a man swung his mace and sent several Contractors of the Order flying at once.

Geumgak unconsciously clenched his fist.

His name was Kang Yujin, right? I’ll admit, watching him fight is satisfying. But...

A Fallen Demon approached Kang Yujin from behind while he was distracted fighting the human Contractors.

Ah. He’s done for.

The daggers used by Fallen Demons were no ordinary weapons.

They only used high-quality assassination blades forged by the Dwarf Demons, the blacksmith race of Pandemonium.

Such a weapon would easily take Kang Yujin’s life.

Damn. This leaves a bad taste.

He had looked promising, so Geumgak had been planning to sponsor him in the future.

But if Kang Yujin died here, there would be no point.

Just as Geumgak was about to sigh—

Without even looking behind him, Kang Yujin suddenly drove his elbow backward.

Crack!

The elbow smashed directly into the Fallen Demon’s face.

“Huh?”

It happened in the blink of an eye.

The Fallen Demon’s nose shattered, several teeth flew out, and the dagger dropped from its hand.

Kang Yujin had already released his mace.

With a light movement, he spun around and drove his fist straight into the Fallen Demon’s solar plexus.

The demon collapsed without even managing to scream.

Seeing their comrade fall, the other Fallen Demons rushed toward him.

But Kang Yujin smoothly deflected every single attack.

And every time he did—

He responded with a sharp counterattack.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four...

The number of Fallen Demons collapsing to the ground continued to rise.

“Hyung.”

“......”

“Didn’t you say he only had strength and no technique?”

Eungak spoke from beside him in a deliberately annoying voice.

Geumgak immediately swung his fist and shut him up.

“Maybe he doesn’t have technique, but his instincts are amazing!”

Shouting angrily, Geumgak manipulated the observation device.

[You have sponsored Contractor ‘Kang Yujin’ 3,000,000 Coins.]

After throwing out the sponsorship money, Geumgak suddenly felt an ominous premonition.

At this rate...

I might actually go broke from sponsorships today.
