Chapter 018 – The Girl of the Demon Spear (2)
Taebaek-nim, where in the world are you…?
A sigh slipped through Eyes’s small, plump lips.
Eyes was a special existence.
She was one of the greatest treasures of the Heavenly Realm and someone deeply cherished by the Jade Emperor.
Because of that, Eyes could freely travel between the world of the living and the afterlife.
There was only one reason why Eyes had descended from the Heavenly Realm to the mortal world.
She was searching for the final reincarnation of Taebaek, the Human Emperor’s Messenger.
However, finding Taebaek’s final reincarnation in this vast world was even more difficult than an Imoogi becoming a true dragon.
That was why Eyes had come up with the idea of becoming an idol.
If she became a famous idol and appeared on television, perhaps Taebaek’s reincarnation would see her and come looking for her.
She did not think about it for very long.
Eyes was not the type to carefully consider something for days.
Think briefly, then act immediately.
That was how Eyes lived.
She was confident in her beauty, so she thought becoming an idol would be easy.
But that was a massive misunderstanding.
Eyes soon discovered that she had a fatal weakness.
She was terrible at dancing, terrible at singing, and had absolutely no sense of rhythm.
Even the Jade Emperor, who usually laughed off whatever outrageous things Eyes did, would desperately try to stop her whenever she said she wanted to sing.
In the end, Eyes decided to find the spirit with the greatest talent in entertainment and let that spirit possess her body.
The spirit she found was the famous gisaeng, Hwang Jinhee.
With Hwang Jinhee possessing her, Eyes confidently entered an audition held by an entertainment agency called Three Seven.
The name Three Seven represented CEO Lee Jowon’s determination.
He had created and disbanded girl groups six times.
He had also driven his company into bankruptcy six times.
So for his seventh attempt, he swore he would finally hit the jackpot.
That was why Lee Jowon planned to choose seven girls through this audition, and he named the new girl group Seven Fairies.
Naturally, the number Lee Jowon hated most—and considered the unluckiest—was six.
Eyes’s audition was a huge success.
Her beauty was enough to surpass even the heavenly maidens who were famous for their looks.
As for her cuteness, even the Jade Emperor often said she was so adorable he could hardly stand it.
Dancing?
Singing?
There was no need to even talk about those.
Hwang Jinhee, the greatest entertainer in Korean history since the age of Dangun, was possessing her.
Eyes simply had to act like an avatar on stage.
Hwang Jinhee showed off the talent.
Eyes collected all the popularity.
It was that simple.
“Eyes unnie, why are you smiling to yourself?”
Seulgi, another group member sitting beside her in the back seat, spoke to Eyes.
“Hm? It’s nothing. I guess I was just remembering something from the past.”
“Did something nice happen back then? I like it when you smile, unnie. You’re so pretty.”
The basic concept of Seven Fairies, just as their name suggested, was “fairies.”
Because of that, Lee Jowon constantly forced the members to act cute and adorable.
The youngest member, Seulgi, was an extremely loyal member who treated every word spoken by Three Seven’s CEO Lee Jowon as if it were scripture.
To perfectly act like the cute fairy Lee Jowon wanted, she even spent thirty minutes every morning practicing adorable expressions in front of a mirror.
The other members did not like that very much.
They thought Seulgi was being far too obvious about trying to impress the CEO.
Eyes, however, did not think badly of her.
Whether in the mortal world or the afterlife, working hard for one’s dream was something worth respecting.
On the other hand, Eyes disliked Lee Jowon because he thought girl group members could be replaced with other girls whenever he wanted.
Lee Jowon looked like some kind of penguin-pig, and he viewed the members as nothing more than money.
If their popularity dropped and they stopped earning money, he was exactly the kind of person who would disband the team and create another one with different girls.
“All right, we’re here. Our little fairies, grab your personal belongings and get out.”
Their manager, sitting in the driver’s seat, spoke to the members of Seven Fairies.
This was their final schedule for the day.
They had come to record a program hosted by a famous music broadcasting station.
The girls gathered their clothes and props before climbing out of the van.
“Aigoo, our seven little fairies. You worked hard coming all the way here.”
As soon as they stepped out, a large, fat middle-aged man wearing a striped suit and sporting a Kaiser mustache was already waiting for them.
—Unnie. That penguin-pig really is disgusting to look at, isn’t he?
Jinhee, it seems like you’re pretty good at judging people.
—Unnie, who do you think I am? I’m Myeongwol, the woman who once ruled the entertainment districts of Gaeseong! Do you know how much trouble I went through when I was a rookie gisaeng because of one handsome-looking but completely insane playboy? Ever since then, I’ve become an expert at judging people.
Then what does that penguin-pig look like to you?
—Just looking at him, I can already tell he has the fate of becoming a Desire Ghost.
Desire Ghost? You mean one of those evil spirits made entirely from greed, the kind that are even uglier than starving ghosts?
—Yes, unnie. I entertained plenty of officials back in Gaeseong and Hanyang, and some of them eventually fell into Hell. A few became Desire Ghosts. They looked exactly like that guy.
“All right, all right. Before we go inside, how about we practice Seven Fairies’ concept pose one more time?”
“Ah! I really hate that.”
“CEO, we’re tired. Can’t we just go inside?”
Except for Seulgi, the members immediately complained with expressions showing just how much they hated the idea.
“Really? Hey, Manager. When’s the next audition?”
“Huh? Did we have something like that planned?”
“We didn’t…?”
When Lee Jowon glared at him, the manager hurriedly pulled out his notebook and frantically flipped through it.
“Ah! Here it is. There’s… apparently an audition in about two months. Hahaha…”
The manager awkwardly mumbled while sweating heavily.
“CEO, we’ll do it, so please stop.”
Eyes stepped forward after hearing what was obviously a threat.
Saying there would be another audition meant that he would replace any members who refused to obey him.
“Yes, yes. As expected, our Eyes is the best. It wouldn’t even be an exaggeration to say that Eyes alone is keeping Three Seven alive.”
Lee Jowon was practically the definition of someone who said whatever he thought without any restraint.
“Even if I disband this group and make a new one, Eyes will remain, so you don’t have to worry.”
At Lee Jowon’s words, the girls flinched and looked toward Eyes.
—Seriously, that penguin-pig is unbelievably annoying.
Yeah. But there’s nothing I can do about it.
Eyes wanted to slap him across the face right then and there.
Still, she decided to endure it until she found Taebaek’s reincarnation.
“All right, then. Let’s do the concept pose. What are we?”
“Fairies!”
As soon as Lee Jowon finished speaking, the group members shouted the slogan while making the cutest expressions and poses they possibly could.
“Very good. Now let’s go inside for the recording.”
Eyes and the other group members looked as though all of their energy had been completely drained in just three seconds.
Eyes silently swore that if Lee Jowon ever fell into Hell one day, she would pay him back more than double for every humiliation she had suffered.
It was working hours.
