Chapter 284

The Game Difficulty Is

Insane

The day had dawned.

The people who had finished preparing to leave for the final battle against Yuellos gathered in front of the Wordsworth mansion and began their final checks.

“The Abyss of Cassus?”

“That’s right.
While you were sleeping, I tried to determine Nox’s location, and it seems he was in a place called the Abyss of Cassus.”

“Really?”

Glenn frowned.

The Abyss of Cassus was a huge wasteland located in the northern part of the Land of Demons.

In Gray Eden, unless it was part of a specific demon character’s event, there was no reason to go there at all.

“Why would he choose a place like that?”

“I don’t know.
I don’t know Yuellos’s intentions either.
Unless I face him directly, there’s no way for me to understand what he’s thinking.”

“I suppose so.
Even the Eye of God can’t be all-powerful.”

Even the Eye of God could only see through a tiny portion of the countless essences surrounding whatever it looked at.

“It doesn’t matter.
We can go there and find out.”

Whether there was a trap waiting for them or something else.

At this point, Glenn had no room left to hesitate over such things.

“Looks like those guys are ready too.”

Tris had come to see them off at the entrance of the mansion, giving each party member words of encouragement and some snacks.

Excluding Glenn, there were six party members in total.
Romina and Ridenhall, Lucheria and Penelope, and Rowen and Nox.

“……”

Only a few of the six might survive, or they might all die.

Yet none of them showed any sign of fear.
They had prepared everything they could with calm and resolute eyes.

Therefore, even if one of them fell into danger, they would not turn back from their path just to save that person.

‘They wouldn’t want that either.’

However, after making a promise with Romina the previous day, Glenn had made up his mind deep within his heart.

He would not let a single one of the six people who were jumping into the line of death alongside him die.

And the time had come.

Leaving behind Tris’s tearful encouragement and farewell, Glenn left the Wordsworth mansion and headed toward the northern part of the Land of Demons.

Using Nox’s spatial movement ability, an innate power unique to a High God, Glenn’s party moved directly to the Abyss of Cassus.

“We’ve arrived.”

Nox spoke only those brief words.

At the same time, a chilly wind blew over them, and everyone opened their eyes and stared in shock.

“This is……”

What they saw was a gigantic basin.

At the center of the barren land, surrounded by enormous hills as if a giant meteor had crashed there, was a huge pit.

Looking down into the endless darkness where they could not even see the bottom, Lucheria and Ridenhall felt a chill and wrapped their arms around their shoulders.

“So this is… the Abyss of Cassus?”

“If there is an entrance to Hell, I imagine it would look something like this.”

“The Wild Ones actually call it that.”

Rowen added to the conversation.

“Even the Wild Ones living in the northwest are forbidden from entering this place recklessly.”

“Well, I did come here once in the past with Kacerto Rienz.”

Penelope narrowed her eyes as she looked down into the bottomless abyss.

“But it didn’t feel like this.”

At those words, Glenn nodded as well.

The Abyss of Cassus had definitely not been like this when he played Gray Eden.

How should he put it?
Back then, it had felt majestic and almost sacred.

Of course, there was a difference between seeing something through a monitor and seeing it in reality, but honestly, that was not the only reason.

“But does that really matter now?”

“Indeed… Since there’s something here that can destroy the world, I suppose everything else would naturally be different too.”

Lucheria gave a bitter smile.

Glenn turned away from the pit and looked over each member of the party.

They were uneasy, but none of them showed any intention of retreating.

“Honestly, I was going to give you one last chance to turn back here, saying that this was your final opportunity.
But looking at you now, I guess there’s no need.”

When Glenn shook his head, the party members responded as if there was no need to ask anything.

“First of all, thank you for coming this far.
You’ve followed me all this time, even though I pushed you around until you were practically collapsing.
Seeing you come this far makes me grateful and sorry at the same time.”

“I don’t think everyone here has the same thoughts.
Some of you probably spent the entire night preparing yourselves to give up your lives and came here ready to die.”

“But that isn’t what I want.
I’ve given you many orders until now, but my ultimate goal has always been the same.”

“To survive together with my people.
And you are my people.
So…”

Glenn smiled.

“Let’s go back alive.
Got it?”

“Of course, Brother!”

“I definitely will.”

“There is no disobeying the Elder’s orders!”

“I will… live and return with you.”

“……Because we promised.”

As Glenn watched each of them give their own answer, he let out a small laugh.

“At times like this, you’re supposed to say ‘Yes!’ together, you idiots.”

Goooooo—

A terrifying presence rose from below.

If the concept of destruction itself became the air and brushed against your skin, perhaps it would feel exactly like this.

But no one was afraid.

“It’s deep……!”

“W-When are we going to stop falling?!”

They were shocked by the seemingly endless depth, but their eyes remained clear.

‘It’s much deeper than it was in Gray Eden.’

Glenn narrowed his eyes.

Had the space somehow been altered by Yuellos or the Laws of Heaven?

“……Hmm?”

Just as he was thinking about it, Nox frowned while looking downward.

“What’s wrong?”

“Something is coming up.”

“Glenn!”

Romina, who sensed something only a moment after Nox, shouted.

Something was coming.

She did not say those exact words, but everyone there immediately entered a combat stance.

“No.”

Except Glenn.

“Whatever is coming from below, we don’t need to fight it right now.”

“Huh?
What do you mean……”

Just as Romina widened her eyes, Nox spoke quietly while covering his entire body with vast amounts of demonic energy.

“Glenn Wordsworth is right.”

Then he increased his falling speed and moved far ahead of the party.

“We do not know what will happen from here on.
So save your strength for now.”

There was a pupa right in front of them.
Why would they waste their strength trying to show off before it?

With Nox, a High God, here, there was no reason to needlessly drain the party’s strength.

“Kuooooooo!”

Monsters appeared from the darkness.

They were presumably creatures created by the Laws of Heaven, but unlike Nox, their dark blue bodies were clearly formed, and they possessed icy-blue cores similar to those of Rune Golems.

“Hooh… beings forged from the power of fate.
A power comparable to demonic energy.
But Yuellos……”

“Do you truly think these pathetic things can stop me, Nox, who has governed the moon and darkness for thousands of years?!”

Light burst from Nox’s dark blue eyes.

Nox stretched out his hand toward the dozens of monsters approaching the party.

Gooooooooo—!

The demonic energy that left Nox’s hand transformed into a gigantic black storm and began to swirl.

Soon, it swallowed the dozens of approaching monsters and tore them apart in an instant.

Kraaaack—!

Crunch!

Baaaaang—!

Boom! Boom!

Explosions echoed even from the depths below that could not be seen.

“The path is open.
Let’s continue.”

Nox snorted and increased his falling speed even further.

The party members behind him stared at his back with astonished expressions.

“I-Is this… the power of a High God?”

“He’s on a completely different level from the Low God we fought……”

“There is quite a difference.”

Lucheria and Ridenhall had just fought a Low God of Heaven.

And that god’s power had been reduced by half because of Symphosion’s fall.

But Nox was a High God, and he had regained the half of his power that he had previously lost, allowing him to use his full strength.

“This isn’t just a little difference……”

“There’s no comparison.
But so what?
He’s our High God.
Right?”

“Our High God… Y-Yes, that’s right!”

Lucheria forced a smile.

Beside her, Romina and Penelope excitedly argued about how that was their god, while Rowen pressed a hand against his forehead as he watched them.

Enjoying the moment where a suitable amount of tension mixed with jokes, Glenn followed Nox downward.

‘It would be great if we could defeat Yuellos using only Nox and my power like this…….’

Boom!

At last, their feet touched the ground.

Had they been falling for several dozen minutes?

“Is everyone okay?”

Glenn checked the condition of the party.

Aside from feeling a little dizzy after falling for so long, everyone seemed to have landed safely at the bottom.

“Good work, Nox.”

“It was nothing.”

Nox casually brushed off his hands.

Thanks to him eliminating the monsters ahead of them, the party had been able to reach the bottom of the abyss peacefully without losing any combat power.

Since Nox was a god, they did not even need to worry about losing their strength.

It could not have been better.

“But… look at that.”

Nox pointed straight ahead with his eyes.

“What’s wrong…… huh?”

The moment Glenn turned his gaze toward where Nox was pointing, he narrowed his eyes.

The gentle light flowing through his ash-gray eyes instantly changed into a sharp radiance.

The reason was simple.

“Welcome.”

Only a few dozen meters away from where Glenn had landed.

The God of Fate, Yuellos, was standing directly in front of Glenn’s eyes.

“Unknown existence.
And my former friend, Nox.
You are welcome here as well.”

Yuellos spread his arms in welcome.

His voice was somewhat excited, but his characteristic dry expression still did not smile.

“……You’re bolder than I expected.”

After silently watching Yuellos, Nox spoke quietly.

“Bold?
Bold, you say……”

“Ah… Nox.
Did you perhaps think I would hide from you and that unknown existence?”

“I don’t see why you would have fled all the way here from Symphosion otherwise.”

Nox was right.

If Yuellos was going to appear so openly, was there really any reason for him to flee all the way here?

That was why Glenn could not help but think that this strange situation itself was Yuellos’s trap and his true objective.

“There’s no need to talk for so long.
Nox.
Just look through that bastard’s essence and see what he’s thinking.”

Nox gave no answer.

“……Hey, Nox?”

“What have you done, Yuellos?”

“What……?”

Glenn looked at Nox’s expression.

Cold sweat was running down his face.

“Why?
What is it?”

“……Glenn.
I tried to read him several times, but I can’t read anything.”

“What……?”

Glenn’s pupils trembled.

There was no way the Eye of God, which could see through the essence of anything it looked at, could see absolutely nothing.

“……”

Glenn quietly swallowed.

The fact that Yuellos had appeared directly before them without fear, combined with the fact that the Eye of God could not work on him, made Glenn feel as if his throat were being squeezed by anxiety.

“H-Huu……”

The party members were the same.

They should have been the ones most confused by Glenn and Nox’s reaction, but they held their breath and watched the situation, driven by a single thought: they would not become a hindrance.

As the anxiety continued to grow, Yuellos quietly opened his mouth.

“I did not do anything in particular.
It is simply how causality has decided it.”

“Causality?”

“That’s right.
An absolute power that exists above every law, a power that exists eternally without ever changing…
That is causality.”

Yuellos began walking.

With his hands behind his back and his short strides, there was nothing about his behavior that suggested he was facing a dangerous enemy.

“You already know this from coming into contact with the unknown existence, but the fate this world was originally supposed to face… the result was annihilation.”

“But because of the unknown brought here by Silpherinne, that fate has been gradually twisted.
As a result, there is now a possibility that the result called annihilation may no longer be established.”

“Then let me ask you this.”

Step—

Yuellos stopped walking.

He looked at Nox and Glenn as the corners of his mouth slowly rose.

“If causality, which exists above every law, wants to obtain a result, what must it do?”

“It must… manipulate the cause.”

“Correct.
Unknown existence.”

Glenn already knew that much.

During the conversation he had with Silpherinne when they first met, Glenn had learned that the power of causality was a force that blocked the unknown and variables, attempting to make the world continue along its originally determined path.

He had also learned through Silpherinne that it had created the Lunatic System in order to eliminate Glenn Wordsworth, the unknown existence that interfered with the world’s path toward annihilation.

“Tch.
There’s no way something like that is possible.”

Of course, Nox, who did not know the full story, could not accept Yuellos’s words.

“Your judgment is irrelevant.
What matters is that the power of causality has made me an existence that surpasses you.”

The moment Glenn saw that bizarre smile, he realized what Yuellos was trying to say and swallowed hard.

“Fuck… no way……”

“What exactly does that……”

“You asked why your eyes could not see through my essence.
Of course they cannot.
Having been chosen by causality, I have now become an existence that even your pathetic eyes can no longer see through.”

Snap!

Yuellos snapped his fingers.

Blue rays of light spread out in every direction from the endlessly high ceiling, illuminating the darkness.

Fiiing—!

Whoooooosh—!

The circular chamber instantly became bright.

Images of countless beings appeared like projections across the walls of the enormous space.

And at the center of the wall directly ahead was a gigantic sphere.

The Laws of Heaven were embedded within it, and particles of blue light continuously poured out.

“How does it feel?
Being able to see the causality of every human, demon, and monster in existence all in one place?”

Brilliant images unfolded in every direction.

As they watched the chaotic world spinning around them, the party and Nox were overwhelmed with confusion.

“Fuck……”

Glenn bit down hard on his lip.

He had never considered this possibility because he had been thinking about Silpherinne’s case.

‘No… how could I have possibly thought of this?’

Yuellos.

The God of Fate who governed causality.

He was no longer the madman who simply wanted to lead the world toward its predetermined fate.

After the repeated distortions of fate, he had ultimately been chosen by causality itself to eliminate the unknown existence.

He had become the incarnation of causality…

He had become causality itself.
