Chapter 69

The Game Difficulty
Is Crazy

Looking at the purple-eyed young man who appeared before him, Glen bit his lips.

‘No way… a Farseer actually followed me.’

A Farseer.

Only seven existed within the cult. They were the highest-ranking priests who had directly formed a contract with the god Kalungoed together with the Cult Leader.

No matter how strong a diocesan head or an ordinary priest was, they could not even reach the end of the 5-star realm. In contrast, Farseers were those who had directly contracted with the god of the cult.

‘Even the weakest Farseer easily surpasses the 6-star realm.’

The saying that just those seven people alone could turn an entire territory into ruins was not an exaggeration.

But why was a Farseer, a top-ranking priest of the Black Cult, appearing in front of Glen at the Haven Monastery in broad daylight?

‘What else could it be? Retaliation for destroying a diocese.’

Just two days ago, Glen had wiped out one of the Black Cult’s dioceses located in the Haven Mine.

Fanatics crazed over religion would never stay quiet after losing one of their dioceses.

‘The strange part is that they somehow knew it was me and came looking.’

At the Haven Mine, Glen had not left behind a single survivor. Afterward, he even sent the Canary Knights to clean up the site.

Even if the Black Cult wanted revenge, they were supposed to be unable to identify their target. That had been Glen’s original plan.

‘But if that guy comes personally, everything changes.’

“Cornello….”

Glen sharpened his gaze as he looked at the purple-eyed young man.

At Glen calling his name, the young man slowly tilted his head.

“Hm? How do you know my name?”

“You think I only know your name?”

Farseer Cornello.

One of the highest-ranking priests of the Black Cult, and a necromancer who could summon the souls of the dead and raise corpses.

With Cornello’s ability to call forth the souls of the dead, it would have been easy for him to learn that the one who annihilated the diocese was Glen.

‘The real problem is why a guy who should be operating on the opposite side of the Papal Holy State is here….’

Even knowing Cornello’s existence and abilities, Glen had still touched the Black Cult’s diocese for one clear reason.

He was confident he would not leave any trail for the Black Cult to follow.

‘Cornello’s territory should be at least a month away by carriage from Haven.’

Yet the Cornello who should have been far away was standing right here.

Glen quickly accepted reality and decided to think about what mattered more.

“Well, the name doesn’t matter. What matters is that you destroyed our holy sanctuary.”

“Still, isn’t it a bit much to come all the way to a monastery in the middle of the day?”

“It doesn’t matter. This place is quite far from the city. And more importantly….”

A chilling light flowed through Cornello’s purple eyes.

“Your cult took our temple, so we must take yours in return.”

A strange glint passed through Glen’s eyes.

‘So that’s why I felt something off about the monastery chapel….’

It seemed the priests who had been in the monastery had all been killed by Cornello.

“Isn’t this a bit reckless just to kill me? You never know where the Inquisitors might be active.”

“Don’t worry about that. Unlike the foolish followers of the Minis faith, I do not act based on emotion.”

In other words, he already had a way to erase Glen and disappear afterward.

And Cornello’s confidence was not empty bravado.

Even though the Papal Holy State was making national-level efforts to eradicate the Black Cult, they were notoriously hard to catch.

If it was a Farseer—an unknown top executive whose name and face were hidden—it would be even harder to track him down.

“As long as you disappear, I won’t be leaving any trail for the Inquisitors to follow. So relax, and allow yourself to be guided by my hand.”

Cornello raised the corner of his mouth and took a glass vial out from inside his robe.

Glen let out a deep breath.

“Phew.”

‘If I try to run half-heartedly against the Black Cult, I’ll only end up revealing my existence to them.’

Once Glen became known to the Black Cult, they would attempt revenge against him at every opportunity.

In the end, the only way to resolve this situation was to fight Cornello and win.

‘If I deal with this guy—the final witness—I won’t draw the Black Cult’s attention.’

Of course, there was a possibility Cornello had companions, but Glen boldly dismissed it.

A Farseer of the Black Cult never traveled with anyone. They always acted alone, carrying out the Cult Leader’s orders.

‘In other words, I just need to deal with Cornello.’

Firming his resolve, Glen took a sword out of his inventory and gripped it.

“Are you really planning to fight me?”

“Tearing apart the Black Cult is what I enjoy most.”

“Well… do as you like. It’ll just be a waste of time.”

Cornello threw the glass vial.

Clink—

With a clear sound, the vial shattered, scattering chunks of flesh and blood across the ground.

Cornello immediately stretched out his hand toward them and muttered something.

Dark crimson particles flowed out from his sleeves and wrapped around the bones and flesh scattered on the ground.

Crunch, crack—

The blood and flesh swelled, then fused together with grotesque sounds.

“Grrrweee….”

Bulky arms and sharp claws.

A grotesque creature, roughly humanoid, let out a growl as it looked at Glen.

Cornello’s unique latent ability—shaping a false body at will and breathing a soul into it to create a servant.

The Sculptor’s ability.

Although only one had been created, its combat power was on the same level as its caster, Cornello.

And according to the original story, Cornello’s level was somewhere between 6-star and 7-star.

‘The weakest among the seven Farseers.’

At first glance, it seemed like Glen had to fight two enemies above the 6-star level, but while controlling the flesh puppet, Cornello himself could not fight.

‘So it’s manageable.’

A cold chill passed through Glen’s ash-gray eyes.

The four rings of stars began rotating at once, filling his entire body with vitality.

“Now then. With this blessing-like power bestowed by the god Kalungoed, I shall divide your bones and flesh—”

“Stop chirping like a sparrow and come at me.”

Cornello’s brow twitched sharply.

“…If you truly wish to die.”

“KRAAAAH!”

Cornello’s flesh puppet let out a shriek and kicked off the ground.

The distance closed in an instant.

At the same time, it swung its arm.

Claaang—!

Sword and claw collided at a single point.

A contest of strength followed.

Kugugung—!

The ground beneath them caved in.

The one with the advantage was the grotesque creature.

Under its overwhelming strength, sword and claw were slowly pushed toward Glen.

Grrrk—

Glen clenched his teeth and pulled his sword sideways.

Slash—

Tch—

As they crossed past each other, both left shallow wounds on one another.

The flesh puppet attacked again.

Clang! Kaang—!

Claws on both hands and a single sword collided from all directions.

Glen’s expression gradually hardened.

‘Troublesome.’

Bestial ferocity.

Wild strikes with no visible pattern.

Cornello’s flesh puppet paid no attention to its own injuries as it lunged at Glen.

Even monsters normally flinched when wounded.

But true to its name, the flesh puppet continued fighting while consuming both its own life and Glen’s.

Slash—

Another wound appeared.

If this attrition continued, Glen would lose.

“How is it? How does it feel to experience the greatness of God’s creation firsthand? Isn’t it marvelous?”

Cornello spoke with an ecstatic expression as he watched the flesh puppet.

He must have thought victory was already his, as confidence overflowed from him.

“Ah, but don’t despair. I’ll reconstruct your blood and flesh into another creation of God as well!”

“Cut the bullshit.”

Glen’s gaze suddenly changed.

He swung his sword wide, slicing through the charging creature.

Slash—!

“KRAAAAH!”

Yet it did not retreat and instead raked its claws across Glen’s shoulder.

Blood burst from the slashed shoulder as they crossed paths once more.

“KRAAAH!”

The flesh puppet kicked off the ground again.

But Glen had already thrown off the demonic-energy sealing cuffs from his wrist and tossed them onto the ground, having created enough distance.

The Lunatic Skill—Gray Ring followed.

Wooooong—

A white radiance flashed through Glen’s eyes.

One demonic ring turned pure white and resonated with the other four, amplifying his holy power.

And the next moment—

Slice—!

The flesh puppet’s right arm was severed and fell to the ground.

“Stop running your mouth already!”

“KIEEEEK!”

Seemingly unable to feel pain, the creature screeched and charged again, swinging its remaining left arm.

But with its balance already broken, its attacks were no longer a threat.

Slice—

In the end, Glen cleanly cut off its remaining arm and legs, finishing Cornello’s flesh puppet.

Dark crimson blood covered the ground.

“Kraa… kyaaaak!”

The creature, with all four limbs severed, writhed on the floor.

Glen stabbed his sword into its core to finish it off, then turned to face Cornello.

“……”

Cornello’s face had stiffened.

Mocking him, Glen raised one corner of his mouth.

“What? Didn’t see this coming?”

“You dare… defile a blessed creation of God…!”

Veins bulged around Cornello’s eyes.

The purple eyes that had wavered weakly now glared straight at Glen, filled with rage.

“I’ll make you regret this!”

“Looks like you don’t even have the composure to keep using polite speech anymore.”

“How long do you think you can keep flapping that mouth of yours?”

Glaring fiercely, Cornello pulled out another glass vial containing something black and smashed it onto the ground.

Splat—

Black flesh and blood scattered around Cornello’s feet.

Breathing roughly, Cornello stretched out his hand.

“Before the heretic who defiled God’s creation, only judgment awaits!”

Dark crimson demonic energy leaked from Cornello’s body and seeped into the black flesh.

The black flesh gathered beneath his feet and slowly began to swell.

Soon, the swollen flesh formed the shape of a giant human once more.

That was when—

Slash—!

From above to below.

A vertical slash split the giant of black flesh in half.

“Kuuuurrr….”

The giant, still forming, spewed black blood as it was cleaved apart.

Landing beneath it, Glen smiled at Cornello.

“You think I’d just let you finish making it?”

“……”

Cornello lowered his head deeply.

Then—

“…Kukukukuku.”

He suddenly clutched his stomach and began laughing.

Glen frowned.

“Ahahahaha! This is why ignorant fools are hopeless! Just because you showed a bit of hidden power, you think you can truly defeat me, a Farseer of God?”

Cornello spread both arms wide.

At the same time, dark crimson demonic energy wrapped around the collapsing black flesh giant.

The severed halves quickly reconnected as flesh stitched itself together.

A grotesque scene that made one frown just from looking at it.

Soon, the massive giant of black flesh was fully restored and looked down at Glen.

From beneath it, Cornello shouted while staring at Glen.

“Behold! This is the power of the creations bestowed by the god Kalungoed! No matter how many times a lowly being like you cuts it, it is useless! God’s creations are eternal and imperishable!”

Cornello lifted his chin.

“Now you have only one path left. Realize the greatness of the god Kalungoed and be annihilated along with your soul.”

‘Yeah. If it were this easy, he wouldn’t be a Farseer of the Black Cult.’

Glen let out a short sigh and slowly raised his eyes.

A sharp radiance now clearly gleamed within his ash-gray eyes.

“Well, whether it’s truly eternal or not… we’ll just have to see.”

Looking up at the giant of black flesh, Glen opened his inventory.
