Chapter 15

▶ Chapter 15. The People I Miss (2)

Well, it doesn’t really matter.

I pushed the pointless thought out of my mind.

“There are also research findings about the theory of mana inside the human body. Do you know about that too?”

“Yes. It’s the theory that even ordinary people who aren’t Hunters possess a very tiny amount of mana inside their bodies, right?”

It was a theory published several years ago by a research team in England.

England was rather famous for conducting strange research whenever they got the chance, so no one believed it at first.

However, many high-ranking Hunters said that the theory was true.

Thanks to that, it was now widely accepted as fact.

“Using those two research results as a basis, our third brother developed a device that can locate mana extremely similar to the mana of the three of us. This is it. However, it turns out that an enormous amount of energy is required to operate the device.”

“So that’s why you need the Mana Stone of a Grade 9 boss.”

“Yes. Unfortunately, they’re extremely difficult to obtain.”

That was only natural.

Throughout history, there had only been a handful of cases where Grade 9 Gates had been cleared.

“We barely managed to arrange a deal for one at 700 million won, but then the seller suddenly changed the conditions to something we simply couldn’t accept.”

It sounded like they had demanded something truly unpleasant.

Han Yonghwan’s eyes burned with anger and disgust.

I made my decision.

“All right. I’ll sell it to you.”

Before the three brothers could celebrate, I continued.

“But I’m warning you. You can only use it to find your younger sibling.”

“Of course. I swear on my name.”

Han Yonghwan placed his tightly clenched fist over his heart and bowed deeply to me.

Just like Han Dongju had done earlier, he bowed so low that his head nearly reached his knees.

Seeing a man who was at least ten years older than me doing that…

As a proper Confucian girl, this feels kind of awkward.

I hurriedly took the Grade 9 boss Mana Stone I had obtained from Olympic Park out of my inventory and handed it to Han Dongju.

“Whoa!!!”

Han Dongju’s mouth fell open endlessly, just like before.

He took a monocle-type item from his inventory, put it on, and began examining the Mana Stone that blazed with golden light.

His face was flushed like someone who had finally gotten his hands on a treasure he had desperately wanted.

But the eyes studying it were extremely sharp.

“Maybe because it came from a Break, its power is incredible. I think the refining process will take longer than usual… Maybe around forty days? Still, it should be much more effective. Thank you!!!”

Han Dongju once again bowed deeply until his head was almost at knee level.

Han Junggeun did the same.

Feeling slightly awkward, I took a step back.

“Then I’ll get going. We’ll meet again in three days.”

“Yes! Take care! Please make sure you come back!”

“…I sincerely hope you find your younger sibling.”

After leaving those few words with the three brothers, I activated Stealth.

I took a long detour on my way home in case anyone tried to follow me.

Then, something suddenly came to mind.

“Dongju will stay behind and search for our youngest.”

Those were the words Han Yonghwan had said earlier.

I don’t know who their youngest sibling is, but I hope they’re still alive and doing well.

The three brothers were searching for them so desperately.

I really hope they meet again.

With that thought, I returned home.

I fell asleep almost immediately.

And then I dreamed.

“Oppas…”

“Our youngest…”

It was a wonderfully happy dream filled with people I dearly missed.

But when I opened my eyes the next morning…

I couldn’t remember any of it.

“You’re saying they appeared again?”

Raymund Wigman.

The head of the World Hunter Association and an SSS-rank Hunter from Germany.

He was exactly the kind of person the public stereotypically imagined when they thought of a German.

In other words, he was rigid, blunt, cold, and placed great importance on laws and rules.

Efficiency was also extremely important to him.

That was why he had not gone to Korea even after hearing that the seal installed at Olympic Park had disappeared.

There would have been nothing for him to learn about the disappearance of the seal even if he had personally visited the site.

And just as he expected, that had been the case.

Then, only a few hours later, the world rankings were updated.

A Hunter called Hunter Anham suddenly appeared as not only Korea’s number-one ranked Hunter, but also the number-one Hunter in the entire world.

There was little doubt that this person had removed the seal at Olympic Park and dealt with a Grade 9 Break within only a few minutes.

They were undoubtedly an SSS-rank Hunter.

I heard David Stefano is eager to challenge them to a duel.

Unlike that battle-obsessed man, Wigman had absolutely no intention of fighting Hunter Anham.

Of course, if Hunter Anham turns out to be a villain, then a duel wouldn’t be enough. They would have to be “sealed” completely.

Judging from everything Hunter Anham had done so far, they did not appear to be a villain.

However, Wigman could not be completely certain.

That was why he wanted to meet them personally and confirm it.

“The appearance of a new powerful Hunter is something to welcome for the sake of world peace. I sincerely wish to meet them. I will be waiting for them to contact me.”

That was what he had announced in front of the swarm of reporters who rushed toward him because he was the head of the World Hunter Association.

Unfortunately, Hunter Anham had yet to contact him.

After that, Hunter Anham had dealt with a suddenly appearing Grade 7 Gate and saved the people trapped there.

Since then, however, everything had remained quiet.

“Where did they appear?”

His secretary showed him some video footage before answering.

“Early yesterday morning, Hunter Anham visited the Wish Guild and sold most of the monster materials and Mana Stones they had obtained so far.”

The footage showed the Wish Guild’s spokesperson making an announcement to reporters.

“The Wish Guild. A good choice.”

It was Korea’s number-one Guild and was highly respected around the world.

Furthermore, Han Dongju, the youngest of the three SS-rank brothers, was considered the world’s greatest item craftsman.

He was incredibly skilled at producing all kinds of useful items.

Because of that, not only most Hunters, but even powerful politicians, businessmen, and wealthy elites tended to treat Han Dongju with respect.

That meant neither the Korean government nor the troublesome Hunters from around the world would be able to pressure the Wish Guild into revealing information about Hunter Anham.

They might try probing them, of course.

But Han Dongju—and probably the Wish Guild itself—likely know almost nothing about Hunter Anham anyway.

Hunter Anham did not seem careless enough to expose their identity so easily.

“Did the Guild also announce the specific types and quantities of the monster materials and Mana Stones they purchased?”

“They said there was too much to organize immediately. They’ll release the details after everything has been fully sorted, which will take several days.”

Wigman fell into thought for a moment before speaking.

“Under the current circumstances, even if I went to Korea, I wouldn’t be able to meet Hunter Anham.”

“Yes. The Wish Guild clearly stated that they have no information about Hunter Anham and have no way to contact them first.”

It was exactly the response Wigman had expected.

“Still, I should ask Han Yonghwan when I speak with him.”

He already had another matter involving Victor Heide that required him to contact Han Yonghwan soon.

“That will be all. You may leave.”

“Yes, sir.”

His secretary bowed politely before leaving the workroom.

Once he was alone, Wigman stood up to resume the task he had temporarily stopped.

Cleaning up garbage.

“Save me! Please, save me!”

As Wigman approached, the piece of garbage struggled desperately and screamed.

“The victims you tortured for an entire week before finally murdering them must have begged you to save them too. But you didn’t listen.”

“Th-That’s not true! There were people I spared!”

“A lie.”

It was nothing new.

Garbage always acted like this.

They committed every imaginable atrocity, but once they were caught and faced death themselves, they desperately struggled to survive.

It only made them even more disgusting.

Garbage…

No matter how much he cleaned, more always appeared.

It was exhausting.

But it was something that had to be done.

Wigman pressed the button on the shackles around the garbage’s ankles.

“…!!!”

The man could not even scream.

That was the effect of the shackle-type item.

It kept the target conscious while inflicting unbearable pain.

That piece of garbage would be tortured like this for an entire week before dying.

Just like his victim had been.

That was the punishment the victim’s family had requested.

Wigman smiled faintly before returning home.

Once there, he took something from his inventory.

A locket necklace.

His hands trembled slightly as he opened the locket.

Inside was a family photograph.

It showed himself, his wife, and their three children smiling happily together.

Their final photograph from ten years ago.

Just a few days after we took this picture…

The horrifying scene from that time resurfaced in his mind.

It tore through Wigman’s heart once again.

Even for an SSS-rank, high-level Hunter, the pain was difficult to endure.

But he endured it.

He had to stay alive so he could punish criminals.

Only then could he reduce the number of people who ended up suffering like his family had.

Even though enduring it was becoming harder and harder with each passing day.

Wigman hesitated before taking another necklace out of his inventory.

A pitch-black gemstone hung from the pendant.

Its effect dulled the wearer’s senses, allowing it to function as a painkiller.

“The pain is difficult to endure, isn’t it? I know you probably don’t like it because Karasawa Takaatsu made it, but use it whenever you need it.”

That person had given it to him with a worried expression.

“Himari and the children would want you to be healthy too, Raymund. They wouldn’t want you to suffer. If it becomes too difficult to endure, please use this.”

Wigman hesitated once again.

But in the end, he put the necklace around his neck.

The pitch-black gemstone immediately filled him with a soothing sensation, dulling his pain.

“Haah…”

Without even realizing it, Wigman released a sigh of relief and tucked the necklace beneath his clothes.

He did not see it.

The moment the pitch-black gemstone touched the area over his heart…

It flashed with an evil light.
