Chapter 4

Chapter 3: Check-In Bro (1/2)

Chu Jinhan silently looked at her.

Almost subconsciously, he tightened his grip on the thing in his hand and quietly hid it behind his back, as though afraid Song Yunfei might see it.

He gave a slight nod, his expression returning to normal.

“Then I misunderstood. Sorry.”

Song Yunfei secretly let out a breath of relief.

She had finally managed to bluff her way through this.

Chu Jinhan was probably relieved too, right?

At least from now on, neither of them would need to keep coming up with excuses.

“Good that you understand. Hurry up and go to sleep! Don’t you still have work tomorrow?”

After saying that, Song Yunfei turned off the light again and lay down.

Then she shifted even closer toward the wall.

Chu Jinhan also sat down on the bed and secretly tucked the thing in his hand beneath the bedsheet.

To stop her from causing any more trouble, he obediently lay down on the bed and simply accompanied her to sleep.

Of course, the distance between the two of them was enormous.

Both of them stayed as far away from each other as possible.

The weather was far too hot.

Even with the fan blowing, sweat still kept appearing.

And because Song Yunfei had gotten so worked up earlier, she was now so hot that she could not fall asleep at all.

She wiped the sweat from her neck again and again.

The man beside her, on the other hand, did not move at all.

She could not tell whether he had actually fallen asleep or simply was not afraid of the heat.

She had no idea how much time passed before Song Yunfei finally drifted off in a daze.

But not long afterward, she woke with a start from a nightmare.

She dreamed that she confessed everything to Chu Jinhan.

Then Chu Jinhan successfully returned to Haishi…

And immediately turned around and sent her straight to prison.

The dream frightened her so badly that she shot upright in bed.

It was already daylight outside.

Sunlight streamed through the rusty iron window, filling the entire room with brightness.

The dense chirping of cicadas outside mixed with the spinning sound of the fan inside, creating an inexplicably irritating atmosphere.

Chu Jinhan was already gone.

Song Yunfei was the only person left in the rented apartment.

She saw two eggs on a plate sitting on the table, as well as porridge in the rice cooker.

Song Yunfei got out of bed, walked to the table, and served herself a bowl of porridge.

With the eggs, she ate two large bowls.

To be fair, in weather this hot, she really did not feel like moving.

But Song Yunfei could not stand the sweaty smell coming from the bed.

So despite the suffocating heat, she forced herself to wash the bedsheet and quilt cover.

However, just as she pulled the bedsheet off—

Something fell to the floor.

Song Yunfei picked it up.

The moment she saw what it was, her face immediately flushed red.

It was a condom.

It should have been the one Chu Jinhan had prepared last night.

So he really does hate me.

Otherwise, he would not have hidden this thing afterward.

To avoid another awkward situation tonight, Song Yunfei threw it into the trash.

Considering just how much Chu Jinhan disliked her, even if she confessed that she was not the original Song Yunfei, it probably would not help.

Just like in her dream, Chu Jinhan would never believe her.

He would only think it was another excuse she had made up.

And he would still send her to prison.

Run away!

I absolutely have to run away as soon as possible!

But before that, she needed to earn enough money for the journey.

At the company.

A female coworker beside Chu Jinhan leaned toward him and teased with a smile,

“Chu Jinhan, your girlfriend hasn’t checked up on you today?”

Chu Jinhan was typing on his keyboard.

Hearing that, he seemed to suddenly remember something.

He pulled his phone out of his pocket and glanced at it.

It really was completely quiet.

As though thinking of something, Chu Jinhan put the phone away and casually replied,

“She probably hasn’t woken up yet.”

They had only gone to sleep after three in the morning last night.

It was ten o’clock now.

It was perfectly normal that she had not gotten up yet.

Whenever Chu Jinhan went to work, Song Yunfei usually checked on him almost every half hour.

She would send messages.

Call him.

Video-call him.

Everyone in the company already knew about it.

In private, they had even started calling him “Check-In Bro.”

It was a small factory that handled clothing exports.

There were not many people in the office.

Including the boss and cleaner, there were only a little over a dozen employees.

The workshop had more people—around fifty or sixty.

Chu Jinhan’s official position was foreign trade assistant.

Inside the factory, people simply called the job order follow-up.

Not only did he have to communicate with clients, he also had to follow each order from production all the way through shipment.

If it were not for how capable he was at his work, the boss would have fired him long ago just because his phone was constantly ringing even during meetings.
