Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Dylan Brown.

Elisha Brown’s adoptive father, and the true mastermind behind everything that had happened.

He was the man who had taken advantage of Elisha’s unstable mental state and controlled her through it.

Sohee quickly hid her surprise and stepped out from behind the front desk to greet him.

“This way, please, sir.”

She welcomed him with a smile, but her thoughts were tangled in a complicated mess.

To think that the very person she had told Elisha to regress and take satisfying revenge on would appear here himself.

Get a grip. He’s a customer.

Fortunately, Sohee understood her duty well.

Every supporting character who came seeking regression, possession, or reincarnation was a precious customer.

They were simply characters who had moved according to the author’s intentions.

She should be grateful that they had come here instead of disappearing.

...That was what she should do.

“Regression, possession, reincarnation? Hahaha. Why would I bother with that nonsense?”

Dylan leaned back across the sofa with a bored look on his face.

“I have no business with you. I came to see Elisha Brown.”

“……”

“Don’t bother telling me she isn’t here. That child definitely came here.”

He smirked.

“She has a reason she needs to go back, after all.”

The way Dylan spoke made it sound as though he had already figured Elisha out completely.

“I cannot confirm who is staying here. And even if she were here, you would not be allowed to meet her.”

“Ha. You look young, but you’re quite calculating inside.”

He pulled a thick ring from one of his stubby fingers and tossed it onto the table.

“She’s obviously here, so enough of that. This is the price for showing me to her room.”

Sohee looked at the ring covered in gemstones.

Jewels of several different colors sparkled beautifully across its surface.

When Dylan noticed Sohee’s gaze lingering on the ring, he swallowed a mocking laugh.

Tsk. Pretending to be upright when she’s obviously going to take it anyway.

Dylan Brown had dealt with plenty of officials who acted respectable like this.

Wanting to shorten her decision-making time, he stood up with the help of his cane.

“Lead the way. I absolutely need to meet her.”

“Sir.”

Sohee lightly stepped in front of him before he could take another step.

“What?”

“I’m sorry, but I cannot allow that.”

“What?”

“I’m saying you cannot go inside.”

Dylan nearly snorted at her behavior.

The owner of the weakest and poorest motel in Wicheon was trying to stop him?

So what if he had a slight limp?

Did this skinny little woman really think she could block a full-grown man?

He stretched out his cane and waved it in front of her.

“Move.”

“……”

“Good grief, how annoying!”

When Sohee still refused to step aside, Dylan’s already short patience quickly ran out.

“Are you not going to move?”

Sohee’s shoulder jerked sideways as he shoved her.

He had actually laid a hand on the motel owner.

The employees gathered around the front desk immediately widened their eyes.

“He just hit her shoulder, right? He touched her first, right?!”

Lili shot to her feet in excitement.

“Yes. Definitely. Touched. Her.”

“I saw it too.”

Even then, Sohee didn’t move aside.

Dylan finally raised his hand against her once more.

With what he considered a trivial amount of force, he pushed Sohee sideways again.

Lili gasped in shock.

“…What do we do?”

Her eyes quickly became watery.

Beside her, Kuku slowly shook his head.

“Exactly. What is that man going to do now?”

At that moment, Dylan’s entire body spun violently around.

He didn’t even understand what had happened.

By the time he came to his senses, he was already lying face-down on the floor.

Sohee had his neck firmly pinned down.

“Ugh! Ghk! Let go of me!”

“Unauthorized entry is not allowed.”

“Unauthorized entry?! I came to see my daughter!”

His face turned red because of the pressure on his neck as he shouted furiously.

Sohee held him down without wavering even slightly despite his struggles.

Then she calmly informed him of what would happen next.

“If you leave now, you won’t have to be dragged away by the Wicheon guards.”

“How dare you! You—do you think I’m just going to let this go after being treated like this? You attacked an innocent character!”

“If that is your position, then we can call the guards.”

Sohee spoke calmly.

“Tell them you were assaulted. I’ll tell them I acted in self-defense.”

“I only pushed you a little!”

“So did I.”

After Sohee became the motel manager, she had gained exactly one special ability.

The physically weak manager had been granted the strength and speed needed to protect the motel.

Although the ability could only be used inside the motel, it was extremely useful for protecting both the building and its guests.

“Let go! Let go! Fine, I won’t go inside, so let me go!”

Sohee slowly removed the hand that had been mercilessly pinning down the back of his neck.

Groaning, Dylan clutched his neck and barely managed to get back onto his feet.

Sohee picked up his cane, which had fallen onto the floor, and handed it back to him.

“Are you all right?”

“H-Have you lost your mind?!”

When Elisha heard Dylan’s booming shouts, her entire body trembled.

Lili had come upstairs a little earlier and told her who had arrived.

Ever since then, Elisha had been peeking outside through the window with only her eyes visible.

Why did he come all the way here?

She covered her ears when she heard Dylan yelling at the top of his lungs.

“Elisha! How dare you think of disobeying me? Have you forgotten how I raised you?!”

“Everything I’m doing is for your sake. Once this is over, you’ll be able to have everything you want.”

“Even Cedric Pattinson, whom you desire so much!”

And on that day, a small medicine bottle had been placed into her trembling hand.

Inside was a purple liquid said to dry up holy power.

“…I…”

Elisha’s empty eyes trembled violently.

As though it were a habit, she dug her nails into her hand and scratched the back of it roughly.

“…I can’t do this. I really…”

“You foolish girl!”

“You only have to do as you’re told!”

“To think you trust me so little after all the years we’ve lived together. It makes everything I did for you feel meaningless.”

“If you hate it so much, then go back to Bellor Convent just like this!”

“No… I don’t want to. Please…”

Elisha squeezed her eyes tightly shut as the painful memories returned.

She scratched the back of her hand so hard that blood was beginning to appear.

Her breathing grew faster.

Her head became dizzy.

It felt as though the air in the room itself were drying up.

She struggled to breathe, and cold sweat poured down her body like rain.

Then—

“I am responsible for everything that happens inside this motel.”

A firm voice came from outside the window.

Barely managing to hold onto her fading consciousness, Elisha turned toward the window and looked outside.

Dylan Brown was glaring at Sohee with a deep frown.

“And?”

He scoffed.

“Are you saying I look like someone who would cause trouble?”

“……”

Sohee simply stared at Dylan Brown.

His face turned slightly red before he shouted.

“Nonsense! Do you not know what happens if someone causes trouble in Wicheon?”

His voice rose.

“Character deletion! You get deleted!”

Character deletion.

It didn’t merely mean being erased from the story they had lived in.

It meant that they could never appear in any new story either.

They couldn’t even become ordinary villagers.

It was a punishment that completely erased the character from both stories and the readers’ memories.

That was why, no matter how terrible their relationship had been inside a story, they had to let go of their old grudges once they arrived in Wicheon.

You go your way, and I’ll go mine.

It was awful meeting you, and let’s never see each other again.

If that rule didn’t exist, more than half the people who arrived in Wicheon would probably be desperately trying to kill one another.

Dylan rubbed his head.

Bribes didn’t work.

Force didn’t work.

What was he supposed to do now?

He decided to try an old method.

“You wouldn’t know how my daughter and I parted…”

He lowered his voice.

“We cared deeply for one another.”

“I can understand very well what kind of father and adopted daughter you were just by reading the Life Record.”

“…Yes.”

Dylan awkwardly changed his tone.

“I admit I behaved badly.”

He sighed dramatically.

“That’s why I need some time to settle things between us before I disappear, don’t I? At least enough time for one final goodbye.”

Sohee stared directly at him.

“Apologies are supposed to be made before someone dies.”

Her voice was flat.

“The most foolish kind of apology is one made in front of a grave.”

“There’s no one left to hear it. You’re only doing it to make yourself feel better.”

“Good grief! That’s harsh!”

Dylan raised his voice.

“It’s the final wish of a dead man!”

“Why would I grant a dead person’s wish?”

Sohee glanced toward the staircase.

From the beginning, she had asked Lili to tell Elisha who had come to see her.

If Elisha wanted to speak with him, she could come downstairs.

And Sohee had already stalled for more than enough time.

Elisha still hadn’t appeared.

That was her answer.

Now it was time for Sohee to throw the unwanted visitor out.

“Everyone who comes here leaves behind the character they used to be and prepares for a new beginning.”

She continued calmly.

“The same goes for you, Dylan Brown.”

“The story is over now.”

“Forget the past and move on.”

“That is the natural order of things.”

Dylan remained silent.

“Please take care on your way out.”

Sohee bowed deeply.

This should be enough to make him leave.

And even if he tried searching for Elisha, he would never be able to do so as long as Sohee was inside the motel.

“Go?”

Sohee raised her head.

Dylan had already leaned back against the sofa again, wearing a relaxed expression.

“Who said I was leaving?”

“…What do you mean?”

“I changed my mind.”

Sohee frowned slightly.

“I’m going to undergo regression, possession, or reincarnation.”

He crossed one leg over the other.

“I’ll make my final decision after I hear the consultation details.”

Then he looked at Sohee calmly.

“The grace period is one week, correct?”
