Chapter 41
Da-ho furrowed his brows and pressed the stethoscope against the patient’s chest.
“What if it’s gone?”
Swish, swish.
The stethoscope moved quickly from the heart to both lungs, then to the abdomen. His movements were lightning-fast.
At the same time, residents and nurses came running, out of breath.
Thump-thump!
“Richard!”
“Senior!”
“Doctor!”
They rushed closer, closing the distance.
Da-ho’s expression tightened as he assessed the injuries.
This wasn’t a minor accident. It was serious.
Quickly, he pulled off the stethoscope and shouted orders.
Clack!
“Hematothorax, rib fracture, hepatorrhexis. Prepare immediately!”
For a moment, the running medical staff froze as if hitting a wall.
“W-what?”
“How are we supposed to—”
“Wait, I mean… okay, CT first!”
Park Jin-kyu, trying to stay calm, called out.
That was the basic procedure in the ER. A normal, standard order.
But the situation was bad.
Da-ho’s face twisted as he shouted like thunder.
“CT? At this time? What the hell!”
“Whoa… such language.”
Park Jin-kyu looked genuinely hurt.
But Da-ho didn’t care.
Gr-r-r!
“Seo Joo-ran, prepare the drain!”
“Okay!”
“Kang Jin-su, BP dropping. Stand by ECG and defibrillator!”
“Yes!”
Clatter!
The residents who received the orders ran back immediately.
But Da-ho’s orders weren’t finished yet.
“Lee Taek-kyung, call CS and GS.”
“Understood!”
“Park Su-hee, what are you doing? Push!”
“Y-yes!”
Thump-thump!
Lee Taek-kyung went ahead, and Park Su-hee rushed up.
“I’ll push!”
“One, two, three!”
Grrr!
Da-ho and Park Su-hee pushed the stretcher with all their strength.
At the same time, Da-ho gave orders to the nurses.
“You, nurse, put all saline in the medical cart and emergency surgery kit!”
“Right away!”
“Nurse Hwang, check the blood type and extra transfusion packs!”
“On it!”
The two nurses scrambled away like they were on fire.
Meanwhile, Nurse Na Sun-joo clung tightly to the stretcher.
“Hoooh, hyah!”
“Bed five in the emergency ICU is empty!”
Nurse Oh Mi-sun guided them. Da-ho already knew and was heading in that direction.
But that wasn’t the point.
The priority was reaching the assigned spot as fast as possible.
“Push!”
At Da-ho’s loud command, the medical team added more force.
“Ughh!”
“Haaah!”
Gr-r-r, gr-r-r.
The stretcher, pushed with one heart and mind, shot across the ER.
Emergency ICU.
Also called Zone E.
It was the place for patients needing urgent care and meticulous attention.
The moment the E-zone door opened, the stretcher rushed in.
“This way!”
“Push harder!”
“Uda-da-da!”
Clatter!
Da-ho and the medical staff ran toward the designated space like fire on their heels.
Soon, the empty spot came into view. Almost instantly.
Da-ho planted his feet and shouted.
“Stop!”
“Huh!”
Scritch!
The friction from their slippers forced the stretcher to slow abruptly. If it had been metal, sparks might have flown.
Da-ho immediately gave another order.
“Park Su-hee, go out and prepare for the next patient.”
“Me? B-but…”
“Now!”
Reluctantly, Park Su-hee turned and left.
Meanwhile, other medical staff who had already started appeared from all directions.
Grrr!
“Here’s the defibrillator! ECG pads, quickly!”
Tap-tap!
“Drain, glucose, painkillers, antibiotics!”
Clatter, clink!
“We brought the urgent stuff first. Emergency surgery kit and transfusion packs are coming soon!”
Everyone rushed toward the patient like lightning, filling the room with energy.
The urgency and desire to help the patient burned in them.
Even Da-ho hadn’t expected such zeal.
“It’s no exaggeration.”
One could tell from their actions.
None of them thought about potential consequences. No one hesitated or stepped back.
There was only the emergency patient in front of them.
And they were doing everything they could to help.
Da-ho’s gaze flashed.
“Then I have to protect them.”
He resolved to shield them from all potential fallout.
At the same time, he quickly scanned the surroundings.
