Chapter 7: Is This Considered Cold Violence? (2/2)
He unconsciously stole another glance at Song Yunfei.
The woman who usually couldn't wait to cling to his arm at every second was keeping a distinct distance from him today.
The shopping mall was packed with people, especially around the raffle desk by the main entrance, where the crowd was so thick you could barely squeeze through.
Song Yunfei put in quite a bit of effort just to muscle her way inside. The interior was equally crowded, with half the people simply coming in to steal free air conditioning.
Once inside, she bypassed every other department and headed straight for the supermarket. Her single goal was to spend at least one hundred yuan so they could enter the draw.
“We’re out of rice at home, aren't we?” Song Yunfei turned back to ask the man.
Chu Jinhan offered the same faint, noncommittal hum as before.
Song Yunfei’s lips twitched slightly. Is this considered cold violence? This is way too much!
Annoyed, she pointed toward the sacks of rice not far away. “Go grab a bag then!”
Without a word, Chu Jinhan silently retrieved a bag of rice and tossed it into the shopping cart Song Yunfei was pushing.
The more she looked at him, the more he resembled an unfeeling NPC.
Handing the cart over to the man, she turned and headed straight for the fresh produce section. She bought twenty-five yuan worth of meat, ten yuan worth of eggs, and fifteen yuan worth of fresh vegetables, bringing the total to exactly one hundred and five yuan.
“Later, you take this bag of rice to check out on your own, and I’ll take the rest to a separate register,” she instructed. “Make sure you keep the receipt.”
“Mm.”
The two of them lined up at separate checkout registers. Once she got her receipt, she couldn't wait to squeeze back into the crowd near the lucky draw station.
Chu Jinhan went ahead to pack away the groceries first before coming over to stand beside Song Yunfei.
After waiting in line for another ten minutes, it was finally their turn.
Excitedly, Song Yunfei handed her receipt to the staff member, rubbed her hands together, and reached deep inside the cardboard raffle box. After rummaging around for a good moment, she pulled out a card.
Seeing the "Fifth Prize" printed on it, her smile instantly collapsed. It was just a small pack of tissues. Still, it was better than nothing, and certainly better than a "Thank You for Playing."
She turned around and pulled Chu Jinhan over to her side. “Your turn this time!”
Without saying anything, Chu Jinhan casually reached his hand into the draw box and pulled out a card.
Song Yunfei leaned in eagerly to check it, her face bursting into a radiant beam in an instant. “It’s second prize! You’re amazing!”
Overjoyed, she wrapped her arms around Chu Jinhan’s arm, practically bouncing with excitement.
Even though they hadn't won the air conditioner, they had won a mini-refrigerator! Although it was just a small compact fridge, buying one online would still cost at least eight hundred yuan.
In this blistering heat, cooked meals went bad in less than a day, making a refrigerator one of their most desperate needs.
Chu Jinhan’s eyes flickered slightly as he watched her joyful reaction.
The staff member smiled warmly. “You two have incredible luck! There were only five second prizes in total, and you landed one!”
Song Yunfei glanced at the man beside her and chuckled softly. “He’s the lucky one. If I’d known, I would’ve let him take both turns.”
The staff member hauled the mini-fridge out, drawing envious looks from the surrounding crowd.
It was a compact model, roughly the size of a bedside nightstand—small enough that even Song Yunfei could lift it on her own.
However, once they brought it out to the electric scooter, she began to worry. Song Yunfei knitted her brows. “How are we going to haul this back?”
It wouldn't fit on the front footrest, and if they strapped it onto the rear seat, she’d have nowhere to sit.
“You drive,” Chu Jinhan suggested flatly. “I’ll take the bus.”
Song Yunfei felt a soft stir in her chest. Stepping up to the scooter, she crouched right onto the front footrest board and let out a bright, beaming smile. “No need to make it so complicated! Can’t I just crouch right here in the front?”
Chu Jinhan froze for a moment.
While he was still stunned, Song Yunfei had already comfortably crouched down on the front deck, not forgetting to turn her head back to urge him: “Hurry up and get on!”
