Chapter 9

Chapter 5: How Could Any Man Resist This? (2/2)

Chu Jinhan shut his mouth at the right moment, deciding not to push the matter any further. If he kept talking, the woman would probably start throwing another fit.

The two of them ate their breakfast in silence at the table. Just as they were nearly finished, Chu Jinhan finally remembered to ask her, “What kind of job did you find?”

“Real estate sales,” Song Yunfei replied, sounding somewhat exhausted.

“Where is it located?”

Song Yunfei paused to think for a moment. “At Baishi Road Plaza.”

As she spoke, her eyes suddenly lit up. “Wait, don't you pass by there on your way to work too?”

Chu Jinhan nodded. “Yeah.”

“That’s great! We can head to work together then.”

Chu Jinhan’s workplace was further away in the industrial zone, but their routes overlapped, and they took the exact same bus line.

“Yeah,” Chu Jinhan offered a casual, perfunctory response. He didn't take her working all that seriously anyway—it was probably just another temporary whim, and she’d likely quit after a day or two.

After finishing her meal, Song Yunfei took the initiative to clean up the dishes. She then changed into a set of work clothes she had bought back when she used to work at Yanjin. Her manager had explicitly mentioned yesterday that selling real estate required formal attire, ideally a proper business suit.

When she stepped out of the bathroom wearing a fitted white shirt, Chu Jinhan couldn't help taking a double take.

The white shirt accentuated her sleek, shapely silhouette, making her look exceptionally sharp, polished, and strikingly beautiful. This outfit made her look like a completely different person compared to her usual sloppy self, elevating her presence and aura by a huge margin.

Still, a person's underlying composure wasn't something that could be altered entirely by clothes alone—the Song Yunfei standing right in front of him gave off an unmistakably different vibe.

Noticing that he was zoning out while staring at her, Song Yunfei asked, “Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?”

Chu Jinhan withdrew his gaze, turning around to head out the door. “Let’s go.”

The morning bus was packed to the brim. Since their stop was right in the middle of the route, there were virtually no open seats left. Stepping onto the crowded bus, the two of them ended up pinned right near the doors.

It had been a long time since Song Yunfei had experienced being squished on a public bus, leaving her feeling quite uncomfortable. Standing directly in front of her, every sway of the bus brought Chu Jinhan pressing up against her, making them both look a little self-conscious.

Suddenly, the bus jolt-bumped violently. Chu Jinhan was jolted from behind by another passenger, causing his entire body to fall forward right onto Song Yunfei.

“Hss—”

Song Yunfei’s face contorted in pain as she gasped for air, unable to hold back a sharp wince.

Chu Jinhan quickly braced his hands against the bus door to pull himself back, only to see her clutching her chest.

His expression turned increasingly awkward and tense. He lowered his voice and murmured, “Sorry.”

It took Song Yunfei a few moments to catch her breath. With her face noticeably pale, she shook her head lightly. “It’s fine.”

Chu Jinhan kept both hands firmly pressed against the door above her, using his arms to shield her so he wouldn't bump into her again.

Looking down at her pale, pained face, he paused thoughtfully before suddenly speaking up: “Maybe you shouldn't go to work after all.”

Song Yunfei looked up at him in complete surprise. “Why?”

“You won't last more than two days anyway,” Chu Jinhan said flatly. “Why put yourself through all this trouble?”

Song Yunfei instantly flared up at his words. “Don't you dare look down on me! Who says I won't last two days? Just watch and see how long I stick with it!”

Chu Jinhan went quiet, though his expression clearly showed he didn't believe she had the stamina to pull it off.

“Besides, going to work means enjoying free air conditioning,” she added with a huff. “It’s way better than suffocating in the heat at home!”

Chu Jinhan’s gaze landed on her face once more. That part, at least, he actually believed.
