Chapter 5: How Could Any Man Resist This? (1/2)
After stepping out of the kitchen, Chu Jinhan changed into his food delivery uniform and headed out to make his rounds.
Meanwhile, Song Yunfei gathered the bedsheets she had washed earlier, remade the bed, took a fresh shower, and lay down on the bed with the electric fan blowing over her while she scrolled through her phone.
She wanted to look for secondhand laptops online; with a computer, she could take on a few freelance jobs at home to earn extra cash. However, even decent second-hand laptops weren't cheap—the bare minimum specs she required would cost over 3,000 yuan.
With a disappointed sigh, Song Yunfei closed the shopping site, opened her notepad app, and began calculating her finances.
Checking her balance, she realized she only had a little over 1,000 yuan left.
The end of the month was right around the corner, which meant rent and utility bills were due soon, adding up to roughly 1,500 yuan. Although this was an older residential complex, its location was quite good; this large single studio spanned fifty square meters, so the rent alone was 1,400 yuan.
Between his daytime salary and delivery gig, Chu Jinhan earned roughly 5,000 yuan every month, sometimes reaching six or seven thousand during busier months. Subtracting rent and utilities, and leaving Chu Jinhan 500 yuan for his own basic living expenses, she was left with barely 3,000 yuan in hand.
Then came her own daily expenses—ordering takeout every day, occasionally dining out—that 3,000 yuan was nowhere near enough to cover it all. On top of that, the original host loved buying random things online all the time, living in absolute financial hardship. She couldn't even afford an air conditioner or a washing machine, let alone luxury items like a laptop.
After running the numbers, Song Yunfei could do nothing but sigh and sigh again.
It seemed she couldn't afford to order takeout anymore; buying fresh groceries to cook herself was far more cost-effective. A single takeout meal cost over twenty yuan, whereas buying twenty yuan worth of groceries could easily feed her for an entire day.
Exhausted after a long day, Song Yunfei felt drowsiness creeping up on her as she calculated her budget.
She drifted off, hazy and unaware of when she actually fell asleep.
In her sleep, she faintly registered the sound of running water in the bathroom, followed by the soft sink of the mattress beside her as someone lay down next to her. But she was sleeping so soundly, her brain completely overtaken by fatigue, that she didn't pay it any mind.
She even rolled over, instinctively reaching out to cuddle her usual teddy bear.
Chu Jinhan had barely settled down when the woman pressed right up against him. His entire body froze stiff on the bed.
The warm orange glow of the bedside lamp illuminated the room. Looking down, he could clearly see the soft, fluffy crown of her head.
