Chapter 5

Who the Prey Is Has Yet to Be Decided!

A hairless monkey with no trace of cultivation can actually reach this level...

The creature stared in the direction Su Tu had disappeared.

To think such a genius exists on humanity's Ancestral Planet. His qi and blood are perfectly unified, his body and mind without the slightest flaw. He's practically a living supreme medicine!

Its greed grew stronger.

If I eat him, I'll recover at least half of my qi and blood. My bloodline might even undergo another transformation!

Eating him would be more useful than eating a hundred... no, ten thousand ordinary hairless monkeys!

A hint of unwillingness appeared in its blood-red eyes.

What a pity. I burned too much qi and blood getting past the Starry Sky Great Wall surrounding Blue Star.

If I can't kill him in a single strike, I'll easily expose myself. Otherwise, I'd really like to eat every last one of them.

Its fish-like gills twitched repeatedly.

It seemed to be committing Su Tu's scent completely to memory.

But I've remembered your scent.

The creature's eyes narrowed.

I have to eat him before the Ruins are discovered.

Only then will I have a chance to claim a share of what's inside!

As its greed intensified, more and more muddy liquid seeped from its eyes.

Within that sludge, countless distorted human faces seemed to be crushed together.

They silently wept.

Every face was twisted in unbearable pain, as though suffering some indescribable torment.

Among them...

One face clearly belonged to the woman who had owned the makeup bag.

Zhang Meng was a good driver.

It didn't take long before she and Su Tu returned to their residential complex.

While driving, Zhang Meng glanced at the makeup bag in Su Tu's hand.

By the way, I've been meaning to ask. What's with that makeup bag?

Then she suddenly seemed to think of something.

A mischievous expression appeared on her face.

Don't tell me, Little Su Tu...

She dragged out her voice.

Could it be that you're...

Her smile became even stranger.

No wonder you're so handsome and still don't have a girlfriend. So that's what you're into...

Before Zhang Meng could finish saying anything ridiculous, Su Tu covered her mouth with one hand.

Stop imagining nonsense.

I just found this by the roadside. I'm planning to hand it over to the Public Security Office...

Su Tu's sentence abruptly stopped halfway through.

His hand shot backward like a spring.

Sister Zhang!

Zhang Meng glanced at him with a wicked smile.

That woman had actually tried to bite him.

Fortunately, Su Tu's perception of his own body had become incredibly sharp.

The instant Zhang Meng moved, he noticed.

Zhang Meng sighed dramatically.

What a pity.

Her voice became deliberately suggestive.

I thought if you'd suddenly become one of the sisters, I might have to help you 'correct' that little problem~

Su Tu didn't bother responding.

He had long since become immune to this level of teasing.

As for Su Tu's appearance in this life...

How should one describe it?

Refined without lacking masculinity.

Calling him the Ancient Greek God of Living Off Women wouldn't even be much of an exaggeration.

Su Tu opened the car door and waved.

I'm going, Sister Zhang.

I'll take this bag to the Public Security Office. You should go home and rest too. Staying up late isn't good for you.

Zhang Meng smiled and was about to tease him again when her phone suddenly vibrated.

She glanced at the screen.

Her eyebrows drew together slightly.

The seductive expression on her face immediately disappeared, replaced by cold indifference.

She answered the call.

Boss, I really would love to go with you to meet that important person, but I'm not feeling well today. What a shame.

She listened for a moment.

I know. He's some young master who came down from New Star, someone with enough influence to reach everywhere.

Her tone remained polite, but her face showed no enthusiasm whatsoever.

But I'm genuinely unwell today. Such a pity...

Su Tu took the makeup bag to the Public Security Office.

He made a report and left his phone number.

The officer told him that once the owner was found, they would contact him.

After that, Su Tu returned home.

But even after sitting down, his mind remained filled with the system notification he had received earlier.

I wasn't imagining it.

There really was something hiding there.

Su Tu sat on the sofa, carefully thinking through everything that had happened.

But what exactly was that thing?

I clearly felt like my punch missed. It didn't feel like I hit anything.

His eyes narrowed.

And why didn't it attack me?

A thought came to him.

Was it because Sister Zhang showed up?

Su Tu's body trembled faintly.

Not from fear.

Quite the opposite.

He was excited.

It was excitement toward the unknown.

Deep inside, Su Tu had always possessed an intense desire to explore.

When he was younger, he had once been obsessed with stories about supernatural powers, mysteries, the unknown, gods, immortals, and other such things.

But as he grew older, he gradually forgot that feeling.

Today, however...

He had encountered far too many things that lay beyond his previous understanding.

A painting capable of drawing his consciousness into a mysterious space.

An enemy that couldn't be seen with the naked eye.

And martial arts, something that seemed obsolete in the interstellar age, yet was apparently about to be added to the Gaokao.

All of it filled Su Tu with excitement.

But he quickly forced himself to calm down.

There really was a monster hiding in the shadows.

Which means the hostility and malice I sensed were real.

He frowned.

The only thing I don't know is whether that hostility was aimed specifically at me... or at all humans.

One thing was certain.

If Zhang Meng hadn't appeared, that creature would almost certainly have attacked him.

Whether Su Tu could have escaped from it was impossible to say.

And if even he wasn't certain he could survive...

Then what about an ordinary person?

Su Tu's expression slowly darkened.

If it has already attacked people before...

He immediately walked over to his computer.

Opening a news site, Su Tu searched for reports of recent missing-person cases.

And he actually found something.

Over the past half month, thirteen people had disappeared throughout Beihai.

The earliest victims had been children.

Then elderly people.

After that came women living alone.

Not a single victim had left any trace behind.

It was as though they had simply vanished from the world.

Su Tu stared at the missing-person reports.

His instincts told him these cases were connected to the monster hidden in the shadows.

His eyes turned cold.

It's evolving...

He studied the victims' photographs.

Children.

Elderly people.

Women.

The prey it chose was becoming progressively stronger.

An indistinct sense of danger slowly wrapped around Su Tu's heart.

Like dark clouds gathering overhead.

If Zhang Meng hadn't suddenly appeared last night...

Perhaps Su Tu would already have become one of those missing people.

He hated that feeling.

Surviving purely because of luck.

A monster hiding within the unknown darkness.

People constantly being hunted.

And Su Tu felt like the only prey in a horror movie who knew the truth.

Forced to watch the monster continue hunting...

Unable to resist...

Only waiting for death.

Su Tu's eyes became colder.

Reporting it directly to the police probably wouldn't help.

If not for the system notification, even he wouldn't have known for certain that something had been hiding in the shadows.

There had already been more than ten disappearances.

Su Tu didn't believe the police hadn't noticed a connection between the cases.

Therefore, he could reasonably conclude that they probably couldn't see the monster either.

If he rashly went to the police and told them everything, the only likely result would be dragging himself into the center of the matter.

There would be little benefit.

But Su Tu had another option.

Tomorrow, I'll find Brother Feiyang and ask him.

Su Tu remembered Lin Feiyang's strange behavior.

That man was definitely no ordinary person.

Perhaps he knew some hidden truths.

Maybe he could even help Su Tu.

But right now, there was something more important.

Washing up and going to sleep.

Su Tu had maintained one iron rule for all eighteen years of his life.

Sleep before midnight.

Chen Xi often mocked him for living like some health-obsessed old antique.

As Su Tu headed toward the bathroom, another thought suddenly crossed his mind.

I wonder if maintaining good health counts as a skill...

Early the next morning, Su Tu ran through the streets in his school uniform.

He needed to become stronger as quickly as possible.

The distance between his home and school was perfect for grinding Body Strengthening proficiency.

Around ten minutes later, Su Tu reached the school gates.

He checked the distance.

Five kilometers.

Yet after running the entire way, Su Tu hadn't even broken a sweat.

A notification appeared.

You completed a short-distance run.

Body Strengthening Proficiency +3

Body Strengthening (Beginner): 233/300

Su Tu looked at the number.

As expected, the proficiency gain has decreased.

Once Body Strengthening reaches Intermediate, it'll probably become like Spiritual Wisdom and only increase one point at a time.

Previously, running from home to school could earn him ten proficiency points.

Now it only gave three.

Su Tu stood at the school entrance.

At 1.81 meters tall, he was already very noticeable for someone his age.

He had sharp eyebrows, bright eyes, and a tall, defined nose.

As sunlight fell across him, he looked almost like someone who had stepped straight out of a movie.

Quite a few girls secretly glanced in his direction.

Although Su Tu normally kept a low profile at school, his grades and appearance were simply too outstanding to ignore.

Throughout his first and second years of high school, someone had confessed to him or expressed interest almost every day.

Su Tu had politely rejected all of them.

At the most ridiculous point, the snacks secretly stuffed into his desk were enough to feed an entire classroom of hungry students.

Only after entering the second semester of his final year, when everyone became busy preparing for the Gaokao, did things finally calm down.

Inside a small convenience store near the school entrance, two girls were whispering while looking toward him.

One of them wore a white dress.

Her large, watery eyes seemed capable of speaking on their own.

Her slightly chubby cheeks gave her an especially cute appearance.

She nervously held a sheet of paper covered in writing.

As she stared at Su Tu in the distance, tiny stars seemed to shine in her eyes.

Her best friend quietly urged her on.

Come on, hurry up and go!

If you don't make your move soon, we're going to graduate.

She glanced at Su Tu.

With your dream guy's grades, he might end up going to university on one of the New Stars.

The girl hesitated.

Her voice was soft and sweet.

But... I'm afraid he'll reject me...

Her best friend immediately puffed out her chest with heroic confidence.

What are you afraid of?!

If you can't get him normally, drug him!

If you can't become his bride, then become the mother of his child!
