Chapter 43
Grunt.
Daeho stepped out of Zone E.
At that moment, Lee Taekkyung quickly brushed past him.
Tap-tap.
He could hear Lee Taekkyung muttering as he hurriedly glanced left and right.
“GS and CS were called ages ago! Why haven’t they come down yet?”
“Try contacting them again.”
“Yes, Senior Richard. One moment.”
Pat-pat!
Lee Taekkyung hurried toward the nurses’ station.
Meanwhile, Jaeho Park approached Daeho, who was now alone.
“How did it go? Did the emergency treatment work?”
“Can’t you tell just by looking?”
Swish.
Daeho lifted his hands, soaked in blood.
Park’s face hardened instantly.
“Showing me that first… you think my heart will survive? How did it go?”
“For now, the patient is still alive.”
Bang. Whoosh.
Daeho reached the sink and washed his hands as he replied.
Park narrowed his eyes, sensing the ambiguity.
“‘Still alive’? What do you mean by that?”
“I mean exactly that.”
“So we don’t know when some sudden complication might show up?”
Park asked again.
Daeho looked at him and countered.
“So that’s why the specialists were called?”
“Huh?”
“That’s the reason they haven’t come in yet.”
Daeho’s words left Park flustered as he tried to explain desperately.
“Well, that’s true, but, I mean, so… how do I…”
“No need to explain. I already know why.”
“You know?”
Park froze.
Daeho watched the red blood stains wash away and said,
“The best way to prevent gossip is to take the lead.”
“Oh. Thanks for not misunderstanding.”
“Someone had to do it, and that’s your role.”
“That’s true, but still… it feels like I’m scheming behind the scenes. Not great.”
Park forced a bitter smile.
Meanwhile, Daeho finished washing his hands and asked,
“So, who’s coming?”
“Damn it. Who even comes?”
“Really?”
Huff. “They drank, transfer the patient. Am I the only specialist here? Calling according to leave days? Damn it.”
Park reported the specialists’ reactions with a complicated expression.
Daeho lightly rested his hand on Park’s shoulder.
“Good job.”
“Huh? I thought you’d be mad. Not upset?”
“I expected it.”
“Oh… I see.”
Park’s expression showed confusion.
Daeho gave a faint smile and quietly said,
“Shall we start with the EMR?”
Nurses’ Station
As Daeho and Park approached, Lee Taekkyung began his report.
“GS is treating a patient with arrhythmia. CS is coming down soon.”
“Okay.”
Daeho replied and sat at the computer.
He calmly reviewed the emergency procedures and started documenting.
Tap-tap, tap-tap.
Seeing Daeho like this, Lee Taekkyung hesitated.
“So, what should I do now?”
“You go explain the situation to the guardians… no, to the patient involved, and confirm how things are going.”
“Understood. I’ll be quick.”
Tap-tap.
Lee Taekkyung ran toward the guardian waiting room.
Meanwhile, Daeho continued typing the EMR.
Tap-tap.
“Hmm, hmm.”
The EMR filled with numerous medical terms.
Park, watching from behind, suddenly turned pale.
“Hey, Richard. You’re not planning to record all this as-is, right?”
“No, why?”
Daeho glanced casually.
On the monitor, the specialists’ emergency call responses were openly documented.
Park’s face turned even paler.
“You can’t write it like this.”
“It’s the truth.”
“That’s true… but…”
Park hesitated, unable to speak clearly.
Daeho ignored him and kept typing.
Tap-tap.
“…”
When the next section was done, Park was shocked again.
“You handled it alone? What do you mean by that?”
“…”
“Richard, you’re taking it all on again. This isn’t right.”
Park’s voice was full of concern.
Daeho tilted his head and asked,
“So, should we write everyone’s name?”
“Only include those who helped with moving the patient. There’s no CCTV in Zone E.”
“That’s reasonable.”
Tap-tap.
Daeho agreed and modified a few sentences.
Park added,
“Also, include me as helping.”
“…”
Daeho paused.
But Park wasn’t finished.
“Looking at this, you didn’t do it all alone. Note that I handled the abdominal drain.”
“Hmm. Will you really be fine?”
“They’re not injured. And as a senior resident, they won’t kick me out. Hah.”
Park added a bitter laugh, fully aware of the consequences of putting his name in the EMR with Daeho.
Daeho’s hands paused briefly, deep in thought.
Then, suddenly:
Beep-beep!
A phone rang urgently.
Park reflexively grabbed it.
“Dr. Kang, what’s wrong?”
“We started the transfusion, but the patient suddenly convulsed!”
